Every. Single. Child. Deserve to be safe

Every child deserves a childhood that is safe, happy, and free from fear. Children should be able to learn, play, and explore the world, both offline and online, without being harmed or taken advantage of. This is the heart of the 2025 National Children’s Month Celebration, with the theme “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!”

Today, technology is a big part of our lives. Children use the internet for school, communication, and entertainment. While the online world opens many opportunities, it also comes with serious risks. Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) are real threats that can deeply affect a child’s safety, dignity, and future.

The word “Wakasan” is powerful. It reminds us that this is not an issue we can ignore or delay. Ending OSAEC and CSAEM requires action, not just awareness. Parents, teachers, schools, communities, organizations, and the government must work together to protect children. More importantly, we must create environments where children feel safe to speak up and ask for help.

This advocacy is not only about protection—it is also about empowerment. Children have rights. They have the right to be safe, to be respected, and to grow in an environment where they are valued. Teaching children about online safety, boundaries, and responsible internet use helps them become more confident and aware. When children are informed, they are better equipped to protect themselves and others.

As young people, we also have a role to play. We can help by being responsible online users, by reporting harmful content, by supporting our friends, and by spreading awareness. Even small actions, like sharing correct information or reminding others to be cautious online, can make a big difference.

Ending OSAEC and CSAEM is not just a campaign for one month. It is a long-term commitment to protecting children and defending their rights. When we stand together and take this issue seriously, we help build a safer digital world where children can grow with confidence, hope, and security.

Protecting children means protecting the future.

Let us all be part of the fight.
